To discuss Tanaka's development. As with all social links consider what the Tarot represents in regards to both the story this social link tells and the character(s) it concerns

The devil can mean

Bondage
Materialism
Ignorance
Hopelessness

Tanaka is a supreme timewaster.  I'm so glad to be done with his link.  I was expecting the devil arcana to be more interesting.  And the fact that Tanaka automatically ranks up each time you talk to him (regardless of your responses and having a devil persona in your inventory) makes him even more of a bore.

"You sense President Tanaka has strong feelings for you."  I'm not sure how good of a translation this is.  Should it be something more like "You sense President Tanaka has taken a strong interest in you"?

I admit I'm finding him rather interesting at the same time though... The two night social links are pleasantly dark compared to most of the other ones, which usually are quite upbeat and so on. So while I'm not enjoying either night link, I think they are important for context (despite both being missable)

That's a great point and it ties into something I've been meaning to mull over and start a discussion on: the P3 perspective on adulthood.  Clearly, neither Tanaka or Mutatsu are very good role models.  There's some pretty deep dissatifaction and angst that comes through in the conversations they have with the MC.  I find Tanaka to be kinda dull but at least he's a good instantiation of what the devil arcana symbolizes--materialistic, greedy, vain.

And I'm going to stop here and continue this over in the Themes thread...

Ah, now that is a fascinating topic of discussion... I think I might make an additional topic on the note of persona 3 and adulthood...

"Money won't betray me like he did"

Interesting line, very Tanaka.

Although I'm enjoying the hints towards Tanaka being poor as a child. It's quite traditional that those without money young are more focused on it when they are adults. Very classic scrooge mc duck
