I assumed from this that the Owl is really one of the Sages we're looking for - whatever form he might now be taking.
There's a popular fan theory that the owl is secretly Rauru, since you pretty much stop seeing him at this point. There's not much reason to think that, other than reading into things too much and trying to find explanations for things, but it's interesting!

Oh boy, I'm still stuck here weeks later. By stuck I mean that I have my gamestate saved at the final boss battle which I've yet to beat. Thought I'd post an update to say I'm still going but life and other commitments have intruded so this took a back seat for a while. I think I'd be making better progress with the 3DS version, though I would miss the game state save ability. As to the level, I liked it as a whole, though I did find it a little disjointed, and do get over the whole you need to have this artefact from some other room to progress in this section mechanic. The shooting ghosts (?) in the picture frames was a fun little element that I liked and worked out rather quickly. Pushing the large blocks around, including the picture puzzle were a little so-so for me. Dropping roof with holes was likewise a little trivial, but interesting all the same. The twisted room mechanic was interesting. Anyway I need to read through what’s already been said before I write more. Just wish to say I am still around

I'm pretty much on the same situation. I've already beaten this dungeon, but I stopped right after, resumed yesterday heading to Death Mountain, but that's it. At least now I know I'm not alone :-)

Yes, I am still in the Forest Temple. I'm coming though.
