Hello everyone! This is my first post here. Years ago I bumped into an old Gaming Hints Book. It was really broad and gave strategies for board, card, and old video games. It was so old it had hints for Phantasy Star. Does anyone happen to know of this book and it's title?
Forum: Off-topic conversation

Hey guys,

I got the email about System Shock 2 and thought I'd come back and say hi. I haven't really had time to play games for the last 2 years but that's because I've been in a graduate program to learn how to make them The program is sending all of us to GDC this month and I was wondering if any of you were going to be there?

Sadly, I couldn't afford anything more than just the expo pass, but it should still be a good time regardless.

Hope System Shock 2 is going well, it's nice to see this board active again. Has anyone suggested moving straight to Bioshock Infinite afterwards like we did when Bioshock 2 came out? I might actually have time for that in mid April.

Forum: Off-topic conversation

I thought an introduction might be appropriate, as I also have some questions about the site!

Hi! My name's Kyle, or FauxShot, or Faux, whichever you prefer to use. ^.^ I'm a student at Wabash College, and was referred to here by that no good Professor Abbott!

I decided to join the site after recently delving into some old school retro gaming. While my interest with all hobbies come and go, I thought this might be a good place to not only get some helpful information, but maybe even try to ground my interest a little bit more so it doesn't go quite as quickly. XD

I tend to 'collect' a lot of miscellaneous stuff (I suppose that comes with the grounds of being an aspiring history major?
Some Starting Tips

I'm not going to go into build/skill strategies here, but I wanted to list a few tips I picked up playing for anyone who might want them (obviously, if you don't...don't read this!).

1. There's a "minimap" button in the interface which is quite helpful, but is turned off by default. Turn it on unless you hate minimaps.

2. Don't forget to lean! Can be good when you hear someone but don't want to expose yourself - though they can sometimes see you anyway.

3. Items you drop WILL stay around (except maybe broken weapons? Not sure the Hybrid shotguns stay). At the start of the game, storing stuff outside the elevator is a good place (later you will find a more obvious location).

4. You can press the "?" key in the inventory view and click on any item for more info and amusing descriptions.

5. Bind some hypos to hotkeys, namely medical and anti-rad.

Feel free to add to this topic, and I may edit in more later.
Forum: System Shock 2

Post away, everyone!

A few suggestions from your friendly neighborhood moderator:

Go at your own pace and post your comments in the appropriate threads.

If you'd like to play with a group that stays together, you're welcome to come along with me. I plan to finish the game over a period of 2-3 weeks, which amounts to an hour of play a day with several days off mixed in. Speed up or slow down as your schedule requires. If you fall behind, it won't be hard to catch up at the pace we'll be going.

Feel free to open new topic threads to discuss anything that doesn't fit in an existing thread, (e.g. SS2's influence on other games, SS2's superiority/inferiority to the original System Shock, etc.).

Thanks for playing with us.
